Mt. Katahdin!!! - Nobo 2185

This post is from September 26, 2015. The GPS data from today's hike can be found at:

My walk in the woods is complete. I am awed and humbled by the experience and grateful to God for keeping me healthy, whole, safe and strong.

Thanks to my best friend Ray "WALL" Greenlaw, recent triple crown finisher, for being with me on summit day:

And Helen was there waiting at the trailhead to whisk us back to Millinockett:

This is my ceiling tile at the Appalachian Trail cafe in Millinocket:

It will be near my son Peters best man Mike Scarpa (aka KEEP WALKER):

  1. I am delighted to have you back, safe and whole and happy. And, based on your description of the Katahdin climb, I am thrilled that I did not attempt that part with you as I would have dragged you down and put a shadow on your triumphant finish. SO glad Ray was there to share that with you. Triple Crown, for those who do not know, means Ray completed the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail (faster than anyone until that time), and the Continental Divide Trail just this summer.

  2. To clarify, Ray did not complete all those hikes this summer, just the last one.

  3. WOW!!!!!

    Again I say: WOW!!!!

I recall you telling us about your plan last November when we were en route to Bonaire.

Congrats on both completing the trail and checking one more box on the bucket list.

    What's next?

    1. Right now, try to address crises with the 2 companies I am involved with, dig myself out of a backlog of stuff at the farm (and yes, sometimes this literally means digging), and starting catching up on the execution of the second edition of "Software Defined Networks: A Comprehensive Approach", the contract for which was signed about 4 months ago and the final manuscript is due in March. Plus Helen and I have a bunch of fun travel planned over the next 5 months.
