Helen and I slack packed 12 miles today from Jug End Road
to Lake Buel Road, all in the vicinity of Great Barrington, MA. We leave our home in Maine at
8:30 AM with the Honda Rebel mounted on the back and were
hiking by 1:10pm.
It was a pleasant day with several miles of easy walking
at the start:
We passed a historical monument marking the last battle
of Shay's rebellion:
This is Helen crossing the Housatonic River:
We startled a porcupine who scrambled up this tree when
he saw us:
While the day had started off with several easy and fast
miles things slowed down considerably in the second half as we had to scrambled
over many abrupt mini-canyons like the one shown here:
We reached the motorcycle at 6:45pm and were back at the
truck by 7.
We said hello to an older gentleman (i.e. our age)
thru-hiker named 'Happy'.
I ended up meeting him each of the two following days!
