Made 23 miles today. The terrain was mixed today. The 10 miles before crossing the Hudson were harder like yesterday and I made slow progress. The progress was additionally slowed by the time consuming process of filtering and treating swamp drain off for drinking water. The water situation in August is greatly impacting my joking here.
This is a view from the summit of Bear Mountain just before dropping down and crossing the Hudson.
Speaking of crossing the Hudson it was a real zoo- literally, The low point on the AT 100 feet above sea level is at the bear cage in the Bear Mountain zoo which the trail goes through just before crossing the river.
I was also delayed by the presence of a snack bar just before the zoo:
This is a shot of my stealth campsite tonight:
This today's elevation profile:
I met thru hikers BRAVEHEART, SHEPHERD and WALKMAN today.
The terrain looks like it is getting more difficult each day. When you were traveling in the south many times you would be crossing through farmlands, but I guess there are no farms where you are now - just rocky paths. Keep on persevering, and I hope that it will get a little easier hiking (wishful thinking).
